2008 Provincials Results

This weekend 20 teams from 12 schools participated in the MODS run Provincial Championships. The weather held out enough to allow for 2 full days of play at Assiniboine Park. MIDDLE SCHOOL The Lincoln Lazers (Lincoln 1) held on to their lead to win their first championship over perennial contenders Saint John`s Ravenscourt : "Prairie Fire" (coached by Kevin Landerville). Lincoln, coached by Jen Stark, roared out to a fast start and held off SJR's 2nd half comeback to capture the title. Lincoln's second team (Lincoln 2), coached by Naomi Woodman were crowned the 2008 Middle School Division "Spirit Champs". HIGH SCHOOL SJR - A1 used their overall depth and skill to defeat a game Elmwood team (Elmwood 1) in the high school final. The Dean Wright Coached team relied on a modified zone defense and a significant wind to neutralize Elmwood's height advantage. The Elmwood team coached by Max Hegel and Grant Shaw shook off a rough start to push SJR in the second half. The game ended in a down pour of rain that had threatened all day. Congratulations to the Graduating All Stars Girls Taylor Rusnak (SJR - A1) Claire Lefevre (SJR - A1) Tiffany Proctor (Elmwood 1) Boys Ivan Simonson (SJR - A1) ***(Finals MVP) Kyle Lohrson (Elmwood 1) Tony Khamphavong (Elmwood 1) Justin Delorme (Glenlawn) SJR - A2 coached by Leah Parker took home the High School Division Spirit award.
