WINNIPEG STRIKES!![]() Mark Lloyd (1 of the games MVP's with the catch) Click to read more about General Strike and Fusion's big wins and all the results from the weekend. The first ever tournament held at the new fields was a great success. We owe "mother nature" big for delivering 2 beautiful days on what was supposed to be a very wet weekend. Teams travelled from Minneapolis, Duluth, Calgary, Regina and even Thompson! OPEN COMPETITIVE STRIKE O won the $1500.00 cash prize in the Open division. The final was very close as Regina's "Mangina" came up just short in a 15 - 13 game. General Strike split their squad and played the tournament with 2 teams making this even more impressive. WOMEN'S Winnipeg's touring team FUSION also played split squad and both teams were very successful despite their small benches. In the final Duluth lost a grueling game that lasted over 2 hours. ![]() (Mel Fransoo (Fusion) with the high release pass) The win earned Fusion the $500 cash prize from the women's division. OPEN REC This year the Open Rec division was ruled by Winnipeg's 2 touring Co-ed teams. MOFO came out on top in the Sunday final (Swarm had won the game between the two the previous day). ![]() (Taylor Rusnak (MOFO) with the backhand pass) Huge props to the Thompson team that travelled down for their first ever tournament. Additional news - General Strike came together on Saturday to play Mangina in a Nationals seeding game the win has earned them a higher seed at this years CUC. - Fusion also won their seeding game vs Regina's "Sirens". - Winnipeg's Masters team "FLOOD" won both games they played vs Calgary's Masters team "FIGJAM" on the weekend. While these were not official seeding games it bodes well for the teams chances to have a strong showing next month in Calgary. So many people to thank... Huge thanks to Jess Benoit and Grace Lee for running Disc Central and the party. Thanks to MODS employees Graham Neyedley and Matt Morison for their hard work. Additional thanks to Jodi Ryzowski and Yengin Loay for their volunteer services. Massive Props to Leah Parker for her efforts to make the field food the best we've ever seen. Leah made the hummus, all of the cookies, as well as hard boiled eggs and chopped tomatoes for the wraps. Photography: Thanks to Eric Reder (Strike and Fusion pics), Mike Madsen (MOFO vs Swarm pic) and Paul Simpson for their time. Also thanks to Dale Oliver for providing the filming of the tourney and producing DVD's for all the teams. Can't wait until next year to make it bigger and better. |
