WUP Update

Winnipeg Ultimate Park Update Our city has been pounded by rain this summer and no spot in the city has been hit harder then our fields. The Canadian Ultimate Championships were held at our park from August 13 - 15th. Friday and Saturday added over 50mm of rain to an area that was already saturated from previous rain falls. The weather was a major challenge for the event and forced the cancellation of a lot of the games. In most cases 3rd place games were not even played. As the host organization for this national event that was a qualifier for the 2010 World Club Championships we had an obligation to play as many of the games as we could. The result is a complex that has still not dried out from the rain. Our maintenance advisor is confident that the fields will rebound from this. We had already contracted work in several areas that will bring our fields back to prime condition. However in the interest of the venue we will be closing it down for the remainder of the year to allow it to heal. The major damage done is actually to the non playing areas. This will take some time to re-establish. Everything will be done to make sure that WUP is primed and ready to go for next summer.
