Goals · to continue building a competitive women’s touring team, comprised of both experienced players in leadership roles and newer or younger players seeking to develop their game Team Philosophy · to play competitively & win at Nationals Team Focus · pre-season: fitness & conditioning · mid-season: consistency at practices · end-season: gel & win Outdoor Practices · practices will begin April 22 at Assiniboine Park A5 (practices will toccasionally take place at WUP) · practices will be held twice per week, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 start (for May, we may move to 7:00 in June) · practices will be run by the offensive/defensive captains; captains will work to include team input into practices (indivudals will be asked to develop drills and/or plays prior to practice) · practices will include warm-up, conditioning, drills, mini-lessons, tips and tricks, offensive and defensive strategies · practices will remain open until July Practice Expectations · practice time is a time of focus and team unison; as such, players are expected to work hard at EVERY practice, PARTICIPATE to their fullest, and CONTRIBUTE to a POSITIVE team dynamic · practices will be led/run by “one voice”, that of the captain · players are expected to attend EVERY practice; therefore players must dedicate themselves to practices, rather than co-ed league games · if, by chance, a player is unable to make a practice, she must inform team leader(s) ahead of time (with legitimate reason); *a maximum amount of absences is being explored by the Advisory Committee · injured players are expected to attend practices Try-outs and Numbers · it is possible we may need to reduce numbers prior to Nationals 2010 and/or limit the bench at tournaments such as Flatlands · we will look to carry a roster of 18-24 players for Nationals · all women dedicated to practices and developing their game will be welcome to attend practices and other tournaments Playing Time · it is to be understood by all women playing for Fusion that athleticism, fitness, skill level and ability to fill roles (handler, cutter, offense, defense) will be determining factors in playing time · also essential are a positive attitude, coachability, spirit, and committment · note that playing time will therefore not be even, especially in “points/games that matter” · regardless of playing time, all team members are expected to attend all practices and mandatory tournaments, as well as contribute to the team dynamic from the sidelines Tournaments · players are expected to dedicate themselves to as many tournaments as possible (considering financial and physical constraints) Mandatory Tournaments:
Other Possible Tournaments include: 1.“Beat the Skeeters” (Winnipeg, MB) Date TBD 2. Regina Date TBD 3. Flowerbowl (Vancouver, BC) June 5 & 6 4. “M.U.D.I.” (Maple Plains, Minnesota) July 24 & 25 5. UPA Fall Series 2010 (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida) Costs · cost of tournaments, uniforms, equipment, and fees should be taken into account before making a commitment to playing on the team · more information on costs is available, if you require / are interested Funding and Fundraising · we have applied for a “Women in Sport” Fund ($900 per team) · we will organize 1 - 2 fundraising options for players to participate in, should they choose · Rumor’s raised ~$1000 to be used towards jerseys · we will volunteer at a bingo ($1500 per team) · in order to receive funding, every player is expected to: a. volunteer at the Bingo; b. volunteer at the Flatlands tournament (set-up or take-down); c. volunteer in one other community-building option, as determined by team leader(s) · as a group, Fusion must complete 60 hours of volunteer time (more info to follow) Hope to read from you and see you out!
