A Big Congratulations to the 2025 MODS Scholarship Winners

The Manitoba Organization of Disc Sports is proud to announce the recipients of its three prestigious Ultimate Junior Development Scholarships for 2025. These awards—each valued at $500—are granted annually to outstanding high school athletes who have excelled in ultimate frisbee in Manitoba while preparing to transition to post-secondary education.

Recipients:

Amber Friesen

Dean Wright Scholarship
Honoring athletes who excel in disc sports and demonstrate leadership, community involvement, academic achievement, and commitment to Ultimate within Manitoba. Amber exemplifies all these qualities through her athletic performance, volunteer work, and academic excellence.

Mike Clark

Jean‑Luc Forest "Spirit of the Game" Scholarship
Awarded to a student-athlete who embodies the spirit of Ultimate—fair play, respect, and community—more than just raw competitive ability. Named after founding member Jean-Luc Forest, this scholarship emphasizes integrity, spirit, and service in the sport.

Jack Henwood

Dr. Colin Yeung Scholarship
Recognizes athletes who not only perform well on the field but also contribute in coaching, supporting programs, or other roles that uphold Spirit of the Game principles. Dr. Yeung, a beloved figure in Manitoba Ultimate, inspires service, mentorship, and excellence.

MODS’ scholarships support young athletes who balance academic achievement with dedication to Ultimate. Each award encourages recipients to carry forward the values for which the sport is known: athleticism, integrity, and community leadership.

  • The Dean Wright Scholarship celebrates high-performing players who show passion for disc sports.
  • The Jean‑Luc Forest Scholarship honours outstanding sportsmanship, community engagement, and ethical play.
  • The Dr. Colin Yeung Scholarship rewards those who contribute beyond playing—through coaching, organizing, mentoring, or volunteering.

The MODS community extends heartfelt congratulations to Amber Friesen, Mike Clark, and Jack Henwood. Your achievements, both on and off the field, reflect the best of what ultimate frisbee stands for in Manitoba.

Your dedication signifies:

  • Commitment to high-level play at school, club, or provincial events
  • Active involvement in growing and supporting Ultimate through volunteering, organizing, or mentoring
  • Strong academic performance and readiness for post-secondary education—especially within Manitoba

As recipients of these $500 scholarships, Amber, Mike, and Jack have each shown the promise of future leadership and success. We look forward to seeing how you contribute to your universities or colleges, your Ultimate communities, and life beyond sport.

Congratulations, Amber, Mike, and Jack! Your impacts are appreciated, and we can’t wait to see what comes next. If you’d like quotes from the recipients, sponsors, or MODS organizers—or highlights of specific achievements or event results—just let me know.
