WINTER 2020 WOMEN’S PROGRAMMING UPDATE

The Women’s Committee is pleased to announce that we will be able to continue the expanded programming and offer two Women’s Intermediate leagues. In addition, the Women’s Committee is working more closely with the organizers of the Women’s Competitive League, so that the try-out process for both leagues can be more streamlined.

Descriptions of the different leagues and registration details are as follows:

Women’s Development

This four (4) team league (total of 36 players) will focus on developing and improving ultimate basics.  Players will learn the rules and fundamental strategies of the game of ultimate, and also work on developing and refining the basic skills of throwing and catching.  It is recommended that any players who are new to handling start in the Women’s Development League.

Games for the Women’s Development League will be Sundays at 6:30 p.m. at the WSF South (University of Manitoba) Complex.  The League begins on January 26, 2020 and will run for twelve weeks.

Registration for Women’s Development league will take place on the MODS website, and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Registration for Women’s Development will open at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 6.

Women’s Intermediate

There will be two (2) four (4) team Intermediate Leagues (total of 36 players per league).  These Leagues will focus on introducing more advanced strategies and skills to players.  Players will be encouraged to get out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves.  It is expected that players in the Women’s Intermediate Leagues will already be familiar with basic strategies and are able to throw both backhands and forehands with a mark on them.

One league will be on Sundays at 6:30 p.m. at the WSF South (University of Manitoba) Complex.  That League begins on January 26, 2020 and will run for twelve weeks.

The second league will be on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. at the University of Winnipeg Recplex. That League begins on January 26, 2020 and will run for twelve weeks.

Registration for the Women’s Intermediate leagues will take place on the MODS website, and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Registration for both Women’s Intermediate leagues will open at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 6.

Women’s Advanced

This League is intended to build on the established game play and skills of experienced players, with coaching and mentorship from touring level players.  The objective of this league is to develop ultimate skills in female players who are looking to challenge themselves and who may or may not be interested in touring

Games for the Women’s Advanced League will be Mondays at 8 p.m. at the University of Winnipeg Recplex.  Game format is regular indoor ultimate.  The League begins on January 27, 2020 and will run for twelve weeks.

Women’s Competitive

This league is intended to provide an opportunity to build a supportive women’s ultimate community in Winnipeg, while playing high-level ultimate in a cohesive and inclusive environment.  The objective of this league is to develop ultimate skills in female players who have interest in potentially touring with Winnipeg’s competitive ultimate teams in the upcoming season.

Games for Women’s Competitive League will be on Thursdays at WSF South (U of M), with game times varying between 8:45 to 10:15.  Default game format is speed.  The League begins on January TBD, 2020 and will run until April 9.

For Women’s Advanced and Women’s Competitive Leagues, players are asked to complete this Google Form by Sunday, December 29, 2019 in order to submit their names for consideration:  https://forms.gle/bMhs5uL23D8L8wNd9 .Players for both Wonen’s Advanced and Women’s Competitive Leagues will be selected after a Joint Try-Out Night on Thursday, January 2 from 7 pm to 9 pm at the WSF South (University of Manitoba) Complex.
