Letter from the President - February 2020 Edition

A month into 2020 and the world is still spinning! I guess we’ll call that a win!

This month I thought I would talk a little about what has been going on behind the scenes at MODS. It takes a lot of work to keep this organization running and as a Provincial Sports Organization (PSO) we report to Sport Manitoba.

While this is just the early stages of a new calendar year, for MODS we are coming up on the close of our financial year. So while we continue to run our leagues and programs, our staff has also been busy putting together our IFF document. What is an IFF document? Well to make a long story short, it’s the document all PSOs in Manitoba must complete every year, for Sport Manitoba. It covers basically everything. Our four year plan as an organization, what we achieved in the current year, our financials, demographics, the list goes on.

Once the IFF document has been prepared the staff sends it to the board for approval and from there it gets passed onto Sport Manitoba. But it doesn’t end there! Starting in January Sport Manitoba sets meetings with all the PSO’s where the Staff and Board President give a presentation on the information given in the IFF report. That came early for MODS this year. We had our meeting with Sport Manitoba in our brand new office on Jan 28th. I have to say I was a little nervous going into the meeting, I didn’t know what to expect, but in the end I actually enjoyed it. Sean did a great job leading the presentation, we were able to answer any questions they had of us, and got some information on potential ways to help us improve as an organization.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed that little insight into some of what goes on behind scenes.

Last but not least! Mark Smith our current Board treasurer is stepping down February 7th 2020. I want to thank Mark for all the time he put in over the last year and half. We appreciate everything he did for us and wish him continued success in all his endeavours!

Until next time, have fun out there!
