As we close out 2020 and look towards 2021, one of the areas we are planning for online and in person service to start the new year are coaching development programs. Options will range from Respect in Sport, to NCCP Indigenous coaching modules and our two NCCP stream for community or competitive development. We list options, ideas and emails about coaching development taking place from January 2021 through April 2021 in the sections below and encourage everyone interested to reach out this winter and help with any additional ideas we can deliver to our coaching community!
Respect in Sport is now required for anyone wanting to coach within our programs or who will be on a team’s sideline or bench during competition (in accordance with Sport Manitoba and Coaching Manitoba guidelines). This is a free online course, and MODS encourages everyone to ensure their credentials are up to date before the 2021 school season begins. Respect in Sport must be re-certified every 5 years to remain in good standing. To learn more, please visit the MODS RIS page.
National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP): Currently the MODS office is looking at offering digital or online coaching certification (if possible and allowed by both Ultimate Canada and Coach Manitoba). The benefit of online learning being safety during the pandemic, however there is a trade-off in that those in the workshops won’t be able to learn in person which can be an important tool. If we can get approval to offer both community and competitive NCCP streams online, we will do so starting in March.
MODS is also looking at options to run traditional in person workshops during our annual timeslot of April (ahead of the middle school and high school events and season). Should it be safe to do so, MODS will host those workshops as planned, however details will not be released until closer to mid March to allow for reliable planning.
Anyone looking to discuss coaching development opportunities or ideas is encouraged to reach out to the MODS office through the Business and Sport Development Director.
As we grow our program offerings in Indigenous communities and with Indigenous partnerships, it is important we continue to develop coaches who understand development and spirit within these communities. The Indigenous coaching modules offered by the NCCP stream help to diversify skill sets and give coaches tools to help develop athlete’s, while taking into consideration other points of view or development opportunities.
