Fellow members,

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the start of the pandemic, I wanted to look back and take some time to acknowledge both what we lost over the past year, but also highlight some of the growth that has been taking place within MODS during this time.

There’s no sugar coating the fact that adjusting to a different way of living has been a challenge for all of us. Losing the freedom to play many of the sports that we love was a difficult part of this past year that I’m sure resonates with everyone reading this.

While we would much rather have been playing on the field, MODS has taken the time away from playing to address some behind the scenes items that never got the same amount of focus previously. While it isn’t very sexy, we’ve undergone an accounting software transition that has significantly improved our back end accounting and reconciliation, as well as continued updates to the website.

On a broader note, this past year has seen the introduction of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion working group (if this interests you, please reach out), the introduction of the more equitable Rule A, deepening our engagement with the Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council (MASRC), and strengthening our key partnership with the Winnipeg Soccer Federation (WSF).

In a year where it often felt like it was impossible to accomplish anything, it’s important to look back with some perspective to see that we’ve come a long way - both as an organization and individually since we first suspended play.
