MODS is thrilled to announce the new High-Performance (HP) program for juniors in Manitoba. This program will allow junior-aged athletes (U18) to be able to improve their game while being a part of a professional sporting environment.
Why are these changes being made?
Currently, MODS selects junior provincial teams that run for 8-9 weeks. This puts our players at a disadvantage as they are not
able to fully develop physical abilities, techniques or tactics over a longer period of time. In addition, as Ultimate is the second fastest-growing sport in the world, we need to adapt to
the increase in quality of programming and play. The new HP program will be the pinnacle of all of MODS junior programming.
Who can participate? Approximately 30 male-matching and 30 female-matching age-eligible athletes. A minimum of 20 of each matching-gender will be selected.
How are the players selected?
Tryouts for this program will occur at the end of September/early October of each year and selection will be made by an independent team-selection panel.
Where will this program run?
1) Once a week on-field at WSF South on Thursdays evenings.
2) Professionally led strength and conditioning (S&C) training once per week
3) Mental Skills training and game analysis sessions.
What is this program?
A High-Performance program for athletes who are interested in playing on Team Manitoba in 2025 and taking their play to the next level. This program will involve
tournaments throughout the indoor season as well as exhibition games. Program athletes will be selected for each tournament the program will attend. Selection will be done by the coaching staff.
Fees
80% of the operational costs for this program will be split between the players selected. 20% will be covered by MODS. Out-of-town tournament travel expenses will be covered by the players. Players in this program will not pay for tryouts for either the Canadian 4-on-4 Ultimate Championships or Canadian Ultimate Championships. Expected approximate costs: field time $6/hour, S&C $5.50/hour, mental skills
$5.50/hour, coaching $1/hour. This would work out to less than $25/week for base costs!
Commitment
Athletes selected to this program must be committed to attending the Canadian Ultimate Championships in 2025 if selected, as well as up to 3 out of town tournaments. There will be approximately 3 hours a week of programming. *During the Spring High School league there will be a decrease to work around school programming.
C4UC Team Manitoba Changes
C4UC tryouts will take place in November/December of each year.
There will be 2-3 tryouts. Tryouts will be open to anyone interested, including players not in the High-Performance program but this will be free of charge to High-Performance program athletes.
Canadian Ultimate Championships
Tryouts for 2025 TEAM MANITOBA will be in February/March 2025.
There will be 2 tryouts and non-HP Program athletes are expected to attend both to be considered eligible to make the team. If there are extenuating circumstances, this will be addressed
in the selection protocol and prior approval from MODS is required.
All tryouts will be evaluated by independent team selection panels. The coaches may take up to 26 players on their roster and no less than 21. Cuts will be made at the end of each tryout and athletes will be notified if they have moved on to the next tryout.
Following these tryouts, in late March a second set of tryouts for the second tier (possibly third tier) Manitoba teams will occur. These teams may or may not attend CUC at the discretion of the coaching staff and will operate from April to the conclusion of the 2025 Canadian Ultimate Championships.
