MODS Members,

As we all recently shoveled out of yet another round of snow (with more on the way), I hope that this month finds you doing as well as can be expected in an ongoing pandemic… in the middle of winter… in Winnipeg. It can only get better, right?

I recently read an article in the Winnipeg Free Press by Paul Samyn that provided a somewhat tongue in cheek but also insightful comparison between snow clearing and the pandemic (unrealistic expectations we may have in both cases, disruptions to our daily lives, uncertainty and anxiety on when the next wave/snowfall will come, etc.).

In both cases, the promise of spring is one of the few positives we can hold onto in what can otherwise be rather depressing circumstances the more we dig (pardon the shoveling pun) into it.

As we continue to figure out what work, school and sport looks like for all of us, we’re happy to be able to offer a return to programs to those who are ready to return to play after a break in January. We also recognize that not everyone is in a position to commit to playing right now, for whatever reason that’s important to you. We hope to be able to offer late entry into programs where that is logistically possible, so if this is of interest to you, please reach out to the office and Peter and Corey will help you evaluate your options.

On a different note, the board of directors is continuing the strategic planning work that was started last year. There are many challenges still ahead for all sport organizations, but we are encouraged by the opportunity to dream about what the future of MODS could be and look forward to sharing more with our members as we continue to move through this exciting and demanding organizational process.

Happy early Louis Riel day!

Daniel
